Yes, I'm a 34 yr old American Idol Tour Goupie!

Last night I attended the American Idol Live 2007 Summer Concert Tour. No, I didn't go to chaperone Bryant or some other tween child. I went because I LOVE AMERICAN IDOL. So do my mom and sister. I guess you can call us "Groupies." We are "hardcore" enough that we were invited to walk the red carpet and we had our pictures taken on the red carpet before the concert.

I wish I would have had my Sunjaya Faux-Hawk pictures with me. I'm pretty sure we could have made the TV show- Reality Chat. They were interviewing people with interesting American Idol stories. Oh well... it would have been embarrassing. I can see the headline now "Conservative Gerontology Social Worker for the State of Idaho sports a Sunjaya Inspired Faux-Hawk in Her Off Hours."

Now, a little about the show: Go see it. Contrary to many other opinions, I think Season 6 is chock full of talent.
The show is set up like a review, with solo, duets and group performances all mixed together. The show moves at a quick pace and is very entertaining. I enjoyed this year’s show just as much as the time I saw Clay Aiken's and Rueben Studdard AI group. There are quite a few standout performances. Anybody who is sitting on the fence about attending the show–get down and to your local Select-A-Seat, pronto.

Here are few of my opinions on the American Idol Performers...

Sunjaya: The talent-free hairball that is Sanjaya was one of the first performers of the night. And wouldn't you know it, he still can't sing a lick! He is just as bad in person as he was on TV. He is totally vocally challenged. He resorted to the same head-shaking antics that previously made me want to throw my television out the nearest window.
Fun to watch and laugh at... but a little pitchy! The tweens love him though. The girls behind me screamed his name for 3 hours straight!

Phil Stacey: For me, he was the vocal stand-out of the night. I was surprised to hear the bald guy nail everything he tackled, including the lead on "Hey Jude," which the all the AI guys played themselves.
The TV show just scratched the surface of Phil's charisma. He was so relaxed and personable... probably because he didn't have to deal with Simon glaring at him!

Blake Lewis: Oh my beloved beat boxer! He kept proving how well he sings, and not just how well he can turn his body into a percussion instrument.
His take on Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" is priceless. He has so much personality and charisma. I would pay to see him in concert by himself. Lucky for me, he took up a lot of stage time last night... seeming to be in on so many people's segments.

Chris Richardson: Blake's buddy and Jordin's boyfriend... Chris truly comes across as a nice guy. He had a lot of the tour spotlight on his buzzed-cut noggin. He is super cute and we got to hear him sing a lot of songs.
He wasn't "nasally" like Simon always said he was on the show. I liked Chris a lot by the end of the show.

Lakisha Jones: I'm not a huge fan of Lakisha (personally I think she should be at home with her child... and not on tv/tour for 6 months while someone else watches her daughter). However, her best moment last night came when she once again acknowledged that she was ignoring the popular opinion to never attempt a Whittney Huston song. Her rendition of "I Will Always Love You" just blew Whittney's out of the water. I got chills. When she ran up to the big glory note, she just attacked it like, "Yeah I nailed it. Did you have doubts?" I did.... But I won't get fooled again!

Melinda Doolittle: I felt like she was holding back too much, allowing herself to be overshadowed by other singers, especially LaKisha. She is a wonderful singer and fun to watch. She looked great and she has a fabulous pair of legs!

Chris Sligh: He was pretty forgetable. I was surprised to see him get behind the electric guitar and rock out to “Typical” (Mute Math). He was pretty sexy playing that guitar though!

Hayley Scarnato: She lack the talent of the others. Plus she looked trampy in all her performance numbers. She oozes sex (like that should be a surprise to us after her nude sex pictures hit the internet?). I kind of felt like her numbers didn't really fit with the "family atmosphere" of the rest of the show. She was still interesting to watch though.

Gina Glockson: I'll keep it simple... this girl can sing. I was blown away with the power of her voice. I also liked her funky sense of style. She really reminds me of a young Pat Benetar.

And finally, Jordin Sparks: For the first half of the show, Jordin seemed to be a footnote in her own victory/show. Everybody else seemed to have a lot more stage time. But that was before the last 20 minutes, which then became the Jordin Show. She has such a stage presence when seen live. She delivered a solid, incredibly effortless performance. She surprised concert goers by playing an acoustic guitar (she's just learning) and harmonizing beautifully along with fellow strummer/boyfriend, Chris Richardson, on Rascal Flatts'song, "What Hurts The Most." Ahhh... pure bliss.

And here is my video... probably illegally recorded... of Blake's uncanny ability to beat box. There were absolutely no intruments used other than his voice:

Congratulation Miss Hannah

It is what happens when you are 16. It is a right-of-passage that most everyone goes through. It is a..a...a...I don’t know if I can say it, but I must. It's a drivers license. Hannah got her divers license. There, I said it. And saying it must make it real, right?

Hannah has her drivers license in her wallet. She's getting behind the wheel and begin a new phase in her life. A phase that includes responsibility like she's never known before. She's had plenty of time to practice and prepare for her test... she's had plenty of time to become a licensed driver!

As for me... I need more time. When did I become the the birthmother of a 16 year old? Although I've been privileged enough to have an open adoption and see her grow up before my eyes, I still think of her as a little girl. I know I can’t hold on to her and keep her my baby forever... but still... where did the time go?

I suppose I must accepted this stage. However, I know that the changes are just beginning. When Hannah was here last week for Suzi's wedding she was so beautiful and mature. It was during this recent visit that I had the realization that she's almost the same age as I was when I got pregnant with her. SCARY! She's way too young for that kind of stuff!

I'm proud of her. I'm proud of the sensible head she has on her shoulders. I'm proud of the great morals and values she's learned. I'm proud she passed her driver's test on the very first try. I'm proud to be called her birthmother.

But, if I have a slight look of panic in my eye when I talk about her, don’t worry. I’m really not freaking out too much. I’m just being a mom and doing the best that I can as I watch her grow up and become a woman.

Congratulations Hannah on your driver's license!

Coach Randolph

A couple of weeks ago, my extremely talented husband was chosen to help coach the Treasure Valley All-Star football team. The Treasure Valley team was comprised all the top high school football players from our part of the state. The other team was comprised of the top high school football players from the Northern part of the state.

Last weekend was the big game. With the temperature well above 100 degrees, Bryant and I only stayed through half time. However, we were there long enough to know that Zac's team was going to be victorious. And they were!

As for the regular football season, Zac's already gearing up. He's changing coaching staffs and will move from the Borah High School team to a more local high school team. He and his players have already attended football camp in Cascade last month and they've been doing conditioning and strength training for the last 6 weeks. I believe he'll be coordinating the defense and I know he thinks they have some real talent this year.

Bryant and I are so proud of Zac and his success. He is living his dream and he love seeing his dedication and enthusiam for his players and team. Way to go Zac! We love you!

My addiction

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to scrapbook. I actually have a whole room in my house dedicated to my addiction!

Usually I design with paper, glue, brads, ribbon, etc. I find it very therapeutic. Plus, scrapbooking is way cheaper than therapy!!! Sometimes it can take me several days to finish just one layout. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to scrapping with paper and glue.

However, sometimes I feel the need to get things scrapped quickly. I've found the quickest way is to scrap on the the computer. It's much easier to get everything lined up perfectly. It's also easier to edit things to see if they look better in a different places.

So, today I offer you a simple but fun page that I designed in Publisher last night. It's a picture of Bryant and his girlfriend, Krystel, holding some baby bunnies.

Here are a few others too:

The journaling on this last page says: You aren’t Kira’s brother… but you like to think you are! When we went to see your friend Dallyn’s new sister, you didn’t want to play with Dallyn… you just wanted to sit and hold Kira. You were so gentle and amazed by that tiny little girl.

On our way home you solemnly told me, “Mommy, I hope God lets me be a brother some day.”

4 Years Old and Already a Slave to Love!

Bryant has a new friend.... or more specifically, a GIRLFRIEND. Up until now, the recipient of Bryant's affection has been Hannah. Of course, since Hannah is an "older lady" by 12 years and technically Bryant's sister, it's probably better that he's moved on :)

Meet the object of his new affection... Krystel.

Krystel and her family are our new neighbors. Krystel and Bryant hit it off right from the beginning. I think I can safely say that they're both a bit precocious and have some deffinite attitude. And, they both think they're the shizzle! Yep, they're two peas in a pod.

It really started at our 4th of July BBQ. Bryant and Krystel followed each other around all day. In all my pictures from the 4th, Bryant has his arm around Krystel. Every day since then, Bryant wants to talk about Krystel. He's also been opening up the front door to see if Krystel is outside playing. He's all about Krystel.

Bryant putting his arm around Krystel... AGAIN....

And yet AGAIN... (gee, did he get those moves from his dad?)

But, by yesterday, I knew Bryant was totally taken by her... just like all guys are eventually enchanted by their woman.

That's right, my football throwing, belly burping, ninja fighting son let Krystel talk him into playing Barbies with her!

And if that wasn't enough, after that they sat on the couch and watched her girly CareBear movie! Yep, he's really smitten with her.

I wonder if Krystel would come to our house and watch Bryant's Power Ranger movie????? Now that would be love!

4th of July Fun

We are so blessed to have such good neighbors and friends to spend the 4th of July with. This year we, again, had a neighborhood party in our front yards.

Here's the roll call of all the people who attended:

My wonderful husband Zac and myself

Our next door neighbors, Shaun and Jen

Our old neighbors from across the street, Jennifer and James

My sister and future brother-in-law, Suzi and Austin

Our newest neighbors, Cassie and Garrett

Then there are all the kids:

Bryant and his best friend, Cooper

Karsyn and Autum

Cheyenne and Krystal

It was blistering hot. I think the high was 102 degrees. We all needed to keep cool so we drug all the pools, etc. around to our front yards. We had lots of fun activities for the kids...

The pool which the kids enjoyed up until 11:00 p.m.!

When they got bored of the pool, they started playing in the water coming down the street in the ditch

They drew with chalk. Half the the driveway was an American Flag. It was a real work of art. I wish I would have gotten a picture of it before it got wet and disappeared.

They slip and slided for hours!

While the kids kept themselves occupied, the adults played Mexican Train Domino's. It's a super cool game. We had a great time... even though I didn't do so well :(

As usual we had way too much yummy food to enjoy... I probably gained back 5 of the 35 pounds I've lost!

Although the kids were bugging us all afternoon to do fireworks, as soon as they started, several of the kids got scared. Bryant actually spent half his time running into the house to hide. He doesn't mind the fire but he HATES the loud boom as the fireworks go off.

Bryant and Donny covering their ears from the noise

All the kids liked the "Snake" fireworks

Bryant doing a sparkler

Our celebration ended about midnight. What a wonderful wonderful way to spend the day. Thanks again to these special neighbors and friends for making the holiday super fun!

The group shot taken with my camera, the timer and a tripod (you don't even want to know how many times we had to re-take this photo!)
