Yep... that's what I heard at the Podiatrists office today!
For the last 6 months I've been complaining of heel pain (to my family and friends). It started a small throb... grew into a huge pain... and finally got to where I couldn't walk without limping.
Today I finally had enough.
I decided to bypass my regular Family Medicine doctor and go straight to the specialist.
I called the Podiatrist this morning and was able to get in TODAY (due to a cancellation).
After several x-rays they determined I have a large bone spur on my heel that is putting pressure on my tendon and restricting its movement.

Unfortunately because I waited so long to go to the doctor, I now get to wear night splints on my feet to keep the heels stretched out when I sleep. The splint prevents the arch of the foot from becoming contracted at night.
Then during the day, I get to wear a pair of lovely orthotic shoes with splinted inserts . I haven't picked the shoes out yet... but I'm sure they are TOTALY UGLY!
Be forewarned that you'll probably hear me bitching about my foot (feet) for a while still. The doctor said the symptoms will not resolve quickly. Most patients find relief within about three months... and some take one year.
In the meantime I'll be getting cortisone shots in my heel to help the tendon. We'll hope it works because the next step is surgery.
Yuck!

Ouch! I know whatever shoes you will have to wear, they will be stylish and you will work them. Keep us posted!
***Now you can say that you sleep with a weapon, I am sure the braces will hurt if you kick Zac at night. :) Just looking on the bighter side...
That stinks! Foot pain has got to be one of the worst things ever...
Guess now you'll think twice about waiting so long if something hurts, right?
Praying for a fast-ish recovery for you (like 3 months instead of a year or surgery).
sorry to hear it! life just cant stay simple sometimes!
take care of you!
OOOUUCH!! I am sorry. That sounds so painful. I hope the shoes aren't as ugly as they sound like. Who knows, maybe you will start a new fashion statement. ;)
Oh, I wish I could see those shoes! You'll have to do a blog showing your selection. Seriously though - I am So Sorry to hear about your feet! What a horrible feeling. My knees have been killing me lately (which I have a couple different theories as to why) but I can't go to the dr because I don't have insurance yet at my new job... :( Hopefully it won't be anything too serious like yours. I am wishing you a speedy recovery, coupled with stylish shoes. :)
OUCH! REST and stay off of those feet MAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have missed you! Keep in touch!
