Pajama Pants

Zac's degree is in Secondary Education and Political Science... which includes endorsements to teach History, American Government, etc. History and Poli-Sci are his loves. He devours books on politics, history and other world governments FOR FUN! He is one of the smartest people I know when it comes to anything political or historical.

So, when Zac got a job two months ago as a teacher in the Extended Resource Room (what was formally known in our day as Special Ed), many people were surprised. The job and the kids are a perfect fit for him though. He has so much patience and he loves the fact that "his kids" want to learn. I think Zac possess the skills it takes to be a good teacher to exceptional students. He is patient, tolerant, committed and flexible. Although each of his students face different challenges, Zac can help all of them grow and develop, while making it clear that he accept them just as they are.

As a teacher, Zac wants his students to experience meaningful, interesting learning that applies to their lives. He believes this can be accomplished through the use of hands-on activities, cooperative learning, an integrated curriculum, and, when possible, technology and the internet.

This leads me to the topic of this blog... Pajama Pants. Zac teaches his students everything from science & math to personal hygiene to cooking & sewing. Recently his students finished a semester long sewing project. They made Pajama Pants and then had "pajama day" at school. Some of his more functional students surprises Zac by sewing him and Bryant their own pair of pajama pants. When you figure that many of Zac's students can barely write their own names... sewing Zac and Bryant pajama pants was really a labour of love. I think it speaks volumes that his students were willing to spend hours and hours to surprise Zac with a pair of pants. WOW... what a great group of kids!

Bryant and Zac in their pajama pants. And No... that's not a ring on thorns on Zac's head. It's an unfortunate camera angle that has the star on the wall looking like it's coming out of his head.

You can really notice Zac's 35 pound weight loss in this picture. His shirt is literally hanging off him. It's about 5 sizes too big now... but the alternative was a picture with NO shirt on... and although I think he's cute with no shirt, you probably wouldn't.
