My friend, Jen, and I are always looking for great things (especially free things) to do with the kids. This past weekend Jen found a great activity for the kids to start doing.
We started by going here...
Then we participated in a program called "Build and Grow." Every 2 weeks, the kids do a FREE wood working project at Lowes. Plus, much to their happiness, they get their own apron, goggles and tools to use!
Here is Bryant looking dapper in his apron and goggles
Karsyn, Cooper and Bryant were very intent on building their projects. Notice that none of them would even look up at the camera... they were WAY INTO this project.
Bryant hammered in 28 nails... all by himself. Can you guess what they were building?
Here's Jen and I complete with our safety goggles... we were ready to jump in and help the kids at a moments notice. But, what we learned is that the kids are WAY better at woodworking then we are (how many times did you put that one piece on backwards Jen?)
Here are the kids with thier finished projects... tool boxes to carry their tools in each week!
At the end of each week the kids get a Certificate of Completion and also a patch to go on their aprons (the same idea as Boy Scouts putting patches on their uniforms). Here is Bryant showing off his certificate.
In upcoming weeks, watch my blog to see what else Bryant is learning to make. Who knows, if you play your cards right, you might be the gift recipient of one of his projects!
